Members of the WBDA
sit on the West Berkshire Council "Access for Disabled
Panel". The panel consists of WBDA members, Planning
Officer, Building Control Officer, Access Officer and Adviser
from West Berkshire Council. The Panel meet monthly and are
responsible for reviewing planning applications to ensure that
provisions have been made for disabled people.
Comments are made
against the framework of the West Berkshire Local Plan, the
latest Building regulations (Part M) and other relevant design
guidance. A letter is then sent to the applicant informing them
of the comments made by the panel.
The applications vary
from Industrial Units to Office Developments to Housing Projects.
Participation in this
panel does not only provide valuable information to applicants on
improving access but provides an opportunity for officers of the
Council to increase their level of disability awareness in
relation to planning and building issues.
Members of the WBDA
also assisted in production of the West Berkshire Access Guide.
